The latest upgrades on Gozo stadium well underway

The Gozo Football Association (GFA), is currently working on the latest upgrades and maintenance at the Gozo Stadium. The Minister for Gozo, Giovanna Debono visited the stadium on Tuesday to view the ongoing works, they are being made at an investment of around € 340,000.
Besides the maintenance work, their are four dressing rooms, two rooms for the use of referees, new toilet facilities and replacement on an old building of a garage under the stadium to be able to place the machinery and vehicles owned by theassociation, as well as offices fitted with modern technology. The Ministry for Gozo will finance the cost related to part of the building and equipment of these areas.
Two stands were built to accommodate 800 people. These works continue to improve facilities at the Gozo Stadium, following on from a project started in 2007, when floodlights were installed to enable football to be played after dark.
The Minister for Gozo, Giovanna Debono said that through these improvements and new facilities, the Gozo Stadium will be better equipped to host the Viva World Cup which will be held in Gozo the following May. She explained how the games for this prestigious cup will be be played between eight teams of men and four of women coming from different regions of the world. This will have the effect of advertising for Gozo as a tourist destination.
The Minister said that the project of building a swimming pool near to the sports complex of Gozo is also designed to improve sports facilities for the people of Gozo, but at the same time will also be beneficial to improve and promote tourism in Gozo .
