Sustainable hunting & trapping in spring under derogation – FKNK

After the 4th of March, the Prime Minister should announce the application of a derogation from the EU Directive known as the “Birds,” by means of which sustainable hunting and trapping of turtle doves and quails will be permitted this April and May.
This follows the hard work, including several meetings with different entities both locally and in Brussels and Paris, which the Federation for Hunting & Conservation – Malta (FKNK) has put in these last months, so that its proposals have now been submitted to the Malta Ornis Committee, which in turn will put its recommendations to the Prime Minister.
FKNK’s proposals deal primarily with the manner in which the derogation should be correctly applied, and the way to attain a higher level of sustainable hunting and trapping on the Maltese islands.
