The story covered in this weeks issue is:
The Church in Gozo joined the Catholic Church to celebrate the Feast of Christ the King. The occasion also marked the climax of the Eucharistic Congress that the Gozo Diocese celebrated during the past three weeks. In a very well organised manifestation that ran smoothly from beginning to end, about one hundred priests were joined by some fifteen hundred Gozitans in a walk of faith from St Francis Square to Savina Square – the same square where the first Eucharistic Congress of Gozo was concluded in the year 1929.
The people participated by singing hymns alternating with bidding prayers that were relayed from speakers along the whole route. At the end of the walk, Bishop Mario Grech on Gozo delivered a speech with the theme: the Eucharist and the pastoral work of “thought.” It would be a grave irresponsibility of the people of God in these islands, he emphasised, if they do not contribute towards the human and full development of society. It is the duty of every Christian to promote a love for knowledge. For to express truth, to defend it and express it with humility and conviction and give testimony to it, the force of love is a must. It is in the Eucharist, in the participation of Sunday mass, that the Christian community can find the strength to move forward so that it could grows stronger and helps in the building of a better world.
In conclusion, the Bishop delivered benediction.
The ceremony was also attended by Cardinal Peter Kodwo Apiah Turkson, recently appointed President of the Commission Justice and Peace at the Vatican.
