European citizenship information campaign in Victoria

European citizenship information campaign in VictoriaThe Minister for Gozo, Giovanna Debono, this morning inaugurated the information campaign on the theme of ‘European Citizenship, Not just words, but also concrete rights.’ This campaign launched by the Directorate General for Justice, Freedom and Security of the European Commission, is being organised in Gozo and Malta by the European Commission’s Representative Office and will be visiting five key locations which includes Victoria.

The aim of this campaign is to inform European citizens about their rights as defined in the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union. This campaign is taking the shape of a roadshow which has already visited Romania, Germany, Bulgaria, Slovakia and Slovenia.

Their are information sessions, as well as an interactive quiz, to assess knowledge and simultaneously learn about rights as European citizens. Stands also have brochures, posters, mini-booklets and other promotional material.

Welcoming this event, the Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Gozo, Giovanna Debono, said that such activity serves to help citizens know in more detail the change brought about by membership in the European Union. “This is important for every citizen in Europe, but has a stronger value in respect of a small island like Gozo” added the Minister. This is why European citizenship meant the opening of new horizons for those opportunities that were previously absent from Gozo.

The roadshow will be visiting Mosta on Monday and Vittoriosa on Tuesday.
