The newly elected Council at the 51st Annual General Meeting met recently to elect MHRA Officials and MHRA designate representatives on the various boards and committees to represent MHRA during 2009/2010.
Mr. George Micallef was confirmed as President for year 2009/2010 and thanked the outgoing President Mr. Kevin DeCesare for his work and commitment during the past year. Mr Micallef acknowledged that the last 12 months have been a challenging period for Malta and most especially for the Tourism sector which suffered severe drops in occupancy and revenue.
The months ahead are perceived to be equally difficult and the sector is bracing itself for another tough year. The Council would like to urge Government to refrain from introducing any further costs affecting the industry at a time when the market is very price conscious. The Council will continue to work closely with the Malta Tourism Authority and the Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism and Government, in support to increased marketing, seat capacity, the introduction of new routes and an improved ‘Product Malta.’
The new MHRA Council for 2009/2010 is now composed of Mr George Micallef as President, Mr. Winston J. Zahra and Mr Kevin DeCesare as Vice Presidents and Mr. Joseph Attard as Treasurer. The other members of the Council are Mr Nicholas Borg Mr Noel Attard, Mr. Mario de Celis, Mr Raphael Cauchi, Mr. Noel Debono, Mr. Julian Diacono, Mr. David Jaccarini, Mr Matthew Pace, Mr. Tony Zahra and Ms Claire Zammit Xuereb.
