AD supports Circus Animal Rights Coalition

AD supports Circus Animal Rights CoalitionAlternattiva Demokratika – The Green Party calls upon the government to commence discussions with all NGOs and individuals involved in animal welfare with the aim of drafting a white paper on animal use in circuses. ‘While acknowledging improvements in enforcing existing animal welfare laws, specific issues need to be addressed through a better legal framework’ stated Simon Galea, spokesperson on Agriculture and Animal Welfare.

“Circus animals are confined to an unsuitable environment which deprives these creatures from essential necessities such as space. Performing acts which are not natural to these exotic animals together with constant reports of cruelty and abuse raises concern.”

“It is unacceptable for a civil society like ours to permit for these exotic animals to be treated in this incorrect manner. A lion or elephant’s place is not in the circus but running free in the savannah,”, added Simon Galea.

Chairperson Michael Briguglio expressed AD’s support of proposals being made by the 20 NGOs forming the ‘Circus Animal Rights coalition.’

Well done AD. A good step toward protecting the animals and keep such circuses away from our shores……we don’t need them.
