1. The General Assembly at the beginning of the social year for the Catholic Action Movement was held at its HQ in Victoria. Diocesan Ecclesiastical Assistant Mgr C. Hili spoke about St John M Vianney and led opening prayers. After Diocesan President Manuel Saiba gave a programmatic talk, young members from various parishes rendered a couple of songs.

Bishop Mario Grech led a concelebrated Mass with twelve other Assistants, animated by Bernardette Vella’s Gharb guitar group. At the end of Mass, George Cassar presented Mgr Grech with a copy of his new book of collected writings. Outgoing General President J Pullicino then introduced her successor: Mrs Carmen Agius.

The last part of the two-hour programme was a feature written and produced by Ganninu Cremona which included readings and acting, with the support of powerpoint projections by the Formosa family.

2. A concelebrated mass at the National Sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Ta’ Pinu, Bishop of Gozo Mario Grech formally handed a number of mandates to lay persons who take an active part in liturgical celebrations. These included lectors, cantors, animators during mass, and ushers.

1. A sports marathon of 36 hours was organised at the Gym Seminary in Victoria. During this marathon, a fashion show was organized to entertain the spectators. The clothes for this fashion show were sponsored by Arkadia, and the brands included Urban Jungle, Springfield and Piazza Italia. For this show, 33 models were involved.

A number of organisors and helpers were involved on voluntary basis to put on this show. David Galea was a coordinator, Maria Muscat and Antionette Debattista helped with choosing outfits to suit the models. Rodienne Xerri and Fleur Attard were the chorographers.

2. The MS Rotterdam, which carries 1256 passengers and 589 crew members, anchored off Mgarr Harbour. 950 passengers representing 75% of passengers on board visited the island during the day.

The Ministry for Gozo coordinated a welcoming programme together with Mifsud Brothers Ltd who were responsible for the coordination of excursions to various sites around the island as well as Comino.
