Munxar Parish holds traditional Maltese folk music MassLast Sunday 18 October 2009, the Munxar community celebrated the anniversary of the consecration of their parish church with a special Mass with traditional Maltese folk music ghana. The Mass folk music lyrics were written by Profs. Oliver Friggieri, Frans Baldacchino “Il-Budaj” and Mario Azzopardi and sung by known ghannejja and Mikaela Bajada from Munxar, who will be representing Malta in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Kiev next month.

Other folk singers taking part were Joe Busuttil, Zeppi Spagnol, Pierre Cutajar, Georgina Gauci, Kelly Cassar, Joe Bajada, Mario Azzopardi, Emanuel Zammit and Fredu Abela. On the guitars were John Saliba, Mario Attard and Salvu Tanti.

The Folk music for the Mass was organised by the FME Group (Frans, Mario,Emanuel) in collaboration with the Munxar Local Council which formed part of a weekend of activities ‘Eku mill-Munxar…. dari u llum’, organised by the Munxar Local Council.

The music was dedicated to St Paul the parish patron Saint. The main celebrant was the Parish Priest Dun Tonio Galea together with four other priests. Hon. Minister for Gozo Giovanna Debono, Hon. Parliamentary Secretary Chris Said, MP Fredrick Azzopardi, Munxar Mayor Mr Joseph Sultana and local Councillors attended for this Mass with the community of Munxar.
