4.2% drop in Gozo Channel passengers in 3rd Quarter

In the third quarter this year, sea transport between Malta and Gozo registered a decrease of 4.2 per cent in commuters and a marginal increase in vehicles carried.
In the third quarter of 2009, commuters between Malta and Gozo decreased by 4.2 per cent, totalling 1,246,897 when compared to the corresponding period in 2008. However, the number of vehicles carried by scheduled vessels went up by 0.1 per cent, totalling 331,656. August was the month which saw the most commuters – 463,693.
September was the only month which registered increases in vehicles, up by 3.1 per cent. The number of trips in the second quarter stood at 5,652 a decrease of 0.3 per cent from the comparable period last year.
The highest number of trips was recorded in August – 1,962 or 34.7 per cent of the total number of trips for the period under review.
