A plea for the preservation of Ta’ Cenc, Gozo, made by Din l-Art Helwa on behalf of 10,000 Maltese petitioners, will be discussed on Thursday morning in Brussels by the European Parliament’s Petitions Committee.
The meeting will be streamed live on the European Parliament website www.europarl.europa.eu in the morning (around 11am).
One of the most important items on the upcoming EP committee meeting agenda, the petition calls for the site to be declared a Natura 2000 protected area and claims that lack of quick measures to protect Ta’ Cenc would encourage large scale development with irreversible detrimental effects on the natural environment.
MEPs are expected to discuss the issue following representations by the European Commission on the issue.
