On the occasion of the titular feast of the Nativity of Our Lady celebrated with great solemnity in the Collegiate Basilica and locality of Xaghra Gozo, the Victory Philharmonic Society, hailing from the same village, proudly presents a Vocal and Instrumental Concert under the direction of Mro. Joseph Galea LCM. The musical programme will be held in Victory Square on Friday, the 4th of September, at 9.30pm.
The Victory Band was officially founded on 25th October 1898 and it was the first band in the Gozitan villages. During these years, the Victory Band had several successes around Malta, Gozo and abroad, namely with its visit to Canada in October 1994.
The concert to be held on the 4th of September, will feature the Nativitas Choir from the Philharmonic Society, who is celebrating the tenth anniversary of its foundation on the 16th of April 1999. This choir has acquired a reputation and made progress in the musical era with several services in local churches and chapels namely the National Sanctuary of the Assumption of Our Lady (‘ta’ Pinu’) and the Church of Saint Paul in Marsalforn amongst others.
At present, the choir is under the direction of Mrs Silvana Agius and Mr Ivan Attard (organist). Both Silvana and Ivan studied music at advanced level and at present, they are furthering their studies in music. During the concert, several projects related to the mentioned choir will be officially inaugurated. These include the official choir logo, the new elegant uniform for the choristers, a new choir blog (website) featuring the activities in which the choir take part in and others.
Those who wish to attend this musical concert are requested to be seated in Victory Square by 9.10pm. The Victory Band will be under the direction of Mro Joseph Galea, one of the leading music directors on our island, responsible also for the direction of the L’Isle Adam Band of Rabat (Malta). The Assistant Director, Mro. Josef Debrincat, will also be present to direct the band in the performance of ‘The Morricones Melody,’ in which there is a solo trumpet part performed by Joseph Xerri. The programme covers a wide selection of music to suit all tastes.
